Hurry! There's still time to nominate your military hero!

Nominations are now open for our annual Heroes Among Us program, which will honor and celebrate members of the United States armed forces during four of the Lowell Spinners' 2018 home games at LeLacheur Park in Lowell.

The four heroes selected this year will get all-star treatment at LeLacheur Park, including:

  • A suite that holds up to ten invited guests, who’ll get a sweeping view of the ballpark during the game.
  • A delicious meal at Home Plate BBQ for the hero and his or her guests.
  • A pre-game ceremony honoring the hero.
  • The ceremonial first-pitch of the baseball game.

Maria Porto, the assistant vice president of partner relations at Hanscom FCU, has been involved with the Heroes Among Us program since its inception in 2010.

"It feels like yesterday," she said, realizing that the eighth season is upon her team.

Maria and her team attend the four games to ensure the honored military heroes/heroines and their guests have a memorable and fun-filled evening at the ballpark. They do everything from a fan drawing for a themed gift basket, to making sure the hero and their guests get a pre-game tour of the park and are  well-fed before and during the game. They're also there to photograph our heroes and their guests to preserve the memories. (We have it on good authority that this year the Spinners have brought in a stand-up Canaligator prop with a face cut-out for photographs. Fun!)

"Our main focus is honoring our hero and making sure they have a great night and a great experience," she said.

If you know a man or woman who is serving or who has served in the armed forces and who's the hero or heroine we're looking for, please nominate them for our Heroes Among Us program here.
