When I think about teams, Ray and Andy come to mind. They have been a part of the Boston Marathon for 15 years, fundraising for Boston Children’s Hospital. For the first thirteen years, Ray ran, and Andy waited impatiently at the finish line to complete the final 600 yards with him. They are quite a pair.
Last year, Andy realized his goal of joining the Marathon participants in the wheelchair division. Both he and Ray completed the course, a triumph that probably neither would have completed without the other.
Now, a whole new chapter is opening for Team Hanscom. Ray has a new patient partner, a two-year-old girl named Alice. Andy will once again race as a wheelchair participant. And, we have a new runner: Mike Rzeszutek, sales manager for Hanscom FCU.
Mike has been paired up with Marathon veteran Timmy Stevens. Over the past 15 years, Timmy has cheered on about 25 runners. He knows how special the Marathon is and how important the patient partners are to the runners.
Over the next eight weeks, Hanscom FCU will be raising funds for Team Hanscom. Our efforts will support life-saving research at Boston Children’s Hospital.
It is inspiring to see our Marathon “family” expanding. Please take a look at the video/pictures to see for yourself.
