The future of personal banking is here. It’s the new Hanscom, FCU iBranch, located at 47 Middlesex Turnpike in Burlington, Massachusetts. The emphasis is on the personal.
The iBranch is designed to introduce you to all the ways you can do your banking. First stop, the 24-hour ATM. “The ATM is intelligent,” declared Diana Mautino, member concierge. “If you want to withdraw eight dollars for lunch, you can. It also takes deposits, no envelopes needed.” The best part is that it’s free for anyone to use.
Did you read Diana’s job title, by the way? A member concierge is not someone who tells you where to go, but helps you get to your destination. He or she greets you, guides you through your transaction, answers questions, dispenses advice, and introduces you to all the ways you can do your banking.
Walk past the ATM to the Interactive Area. “Here you can have a quick conversation with someone – it looks like a coffee shop,” Diana observed.
“It doesn’t look like your typical branch,” agreed branch manager Anna Metrik.
“We want our members and visitors to be comfortable,” explained James Sullivan, also a member concierge. “People tend to see banking as an errand. We don’t want that feel at all.”
In the center of the room, the Discovery Area has an eight-station tablet bar. It is stocked with several types of devices so you can choose the one you prefer. Sit down and scroll through your options. Email information to your spouse or co-borrower. Watch a video about depositing a check with your phone.
For needs beyond a simple transaction or question, sit down at a table in a private yet accessible office to talk with someone who is empowered to help you. “You can walk through the door and deal with just one person, confidentially,” said Ashley Netishen, assistant manager. “We can move anywhere in the branch to assist you.”
At the back of the branch is a large conference area that can host lunchtime seminars on retirement saving, budgeting, managing credit, and a number of financial topics. Seminars include lunch and are free to anyone.
So there you have it. A convenient location near the Market Basket shopping plaza with a dedicated turning light, friendly staff focused on your financial well-being, and even an occasional free lunch.
Stop by between now and Saturday, June 13 and try to Crack the Vault. We are giving away hundreds of prizes, plus a grand prize of $2,000 or a Bose Entertainment System.
