If you're considering this move, take these steps to help ensure your paperwork is handled smoothly: - Have proof of income available, including copies of your paystubs, W-2s, tax returns and bank statements. - Provide verifiable information about your current mortgage,  including outstanding balance. - Sign the application and other requested documents as soon as possible. Even if you've refinanced within the past couple of years, you may be able to save on interest, reduce the length of your mortgage and/or switch from an adjustable-rate to a fixed-rate loan.
